Instructor's Corner
I have been very busy working on new and exciting projects. I have been working on my new ebook, "Relax Your Mind", and it is almost done. It describes simple meditation techniques to relieve stress and quiet a busy mind. I'm also working on a companion workbook to help deepen the practice of "Relaxing Your Mind". And, there is much more coming so hold onto your seat. There will be more information in future editions of this newsletter.
Summer is a great time to spend time outside, experiencing nature. It is my favorite time of the year to practice Qigong outside, whether it is practicing an exercise, meditating, or just being in the present moment in nature.
Qigong provides many tools for training the mind, reducing stress and increasing energy to improve your health. I have benefited from many forms of Qigong. You can experience similar benefits too.
The purpose of the Vital Qi Newsletter is to bring awareness to Qigong and to inform you of Qigong classes and products available at Inner Vitality Qigong.
We also intend on covering other natural health related topics. We look forward to working with you and growing together as we cultivate
inner vitality through the art of Qigong. Please feel free to share this newsletter with family and friends.

Lessons From The Masters |
Lessons from the Tao Te Ching
I realize that I have previously shared this translation of Chapter 10. However, I am presenting it again, not only because it is my favorite translation, but also because it expresses the true spirit of Qigong. If you come to understand and live its meaning, it will transform your life. I hope you enjoy it.
You can read more about the Tao Te Ching here.
Chapter 10 (partial, translator unknown)
"Can you calm your mind from its wandering
and sense the unity of the ONE?
Can you cultivate your life force and
sustain the flexibility of a newborn with no cares?
Can you refine your inner vision and
perceive the natural inner radiance of your eternal being?"
|
|
I would like to go over the finer points of this translation as they relate to Qigong. First, a very important part of Qigong is relaxation. A calm mind is key to relaxation. "ONE" refers to the Tao, but in Qigong we use the term Universal Energy or Universal Chi Field. Of course, the goal of Qigong is to develop smooth Qi flow and increase the amount of Qi in the body. Qi is the life force. Flexibility means that we are not tight and rigid. It is difficult to relax if you are tight and rigid. Also, Qi does not flow smoothly through a body that is tight and rigid. Inner vision refers to visualization and imagination, both of which we use for guiding the Qi in the body. We use this internal vision to connect our energy body with the larger Chi Field. I hope you enjoy this translation. Meditating on these words will give you deep insights into the practice of Qigong.

Qigong Practice |
Qigong Tip
When practicing Qigong, it is important to keep your tongue on the roof of your mouth just behind the teeth, unless told otherwise. This helps to connect the major energy vessels (Govenor and Conception vessels) that supply energy to the other energy channels in the body. I also recommend doing this at other times during the day.
