Living Qigong

Meditate in the Moonlight - Living Qigong

Living Qigong 24 hours a day depends on our mind power. So, in the beginning, we train our minds to release stress and relax. Relaxation is one of the most important aspects of Qigong living. Stress restricts the flow of Qi. Relaxation allows the Qi to flow smoothly.

Living Qigong is not about being perfect. It’s about doing your best. If you have an “off” day, accept it as a learning opportunity, try again, make an adjustment, stay calm, and positive. It is a chance to dive deeper into your understanding of your life. Ask yourself quality questions when you are having an “off” day. For example, what can I do differently to achieve a more beneficial outcome? Or, you can restate your situation and focus on what you do want. For example, what I desire is to handle this situation calmly and positively.

The practice of Qigong is not just limited to the times when we practice the exercises and meditations. Qigong is really the practice of life. Qigong is an expression of life. Thus, Qigong is a way of life.

If you live Qigong, then when you wake in the morning, you take a deep breath, put a smile on your face, and you center your mind in the present moment. Throughout your day, you send positive energy in the form of thoughts to all life forms around you. You send blessings of gratitude to life itself.

When you eat, you focus only on eating the food. You focus on how the food tastes. Feel the presences of the food in your mouth. Look at the colors and textures of the food. Smell the aroma of the food. Breathe deeply while you eat. Chew slowly and appreciate the moment.

When you wash the dishes, you focus only on washing the dishes. Feel the warmth of the water on your hands. Feel how smooth the soap feels. Smell the scent of the soap. Wipe the front side of the plate. Notice the pattern in the front of the plate. When you wipe the back side of the plate, just focus on the back side. Don’t worry about the front side. Don’t worry about how many dishes you have to wash. Focus on each dish, one at a time. Breathe deeply while you wash the dishes.

Sleeping is another practice of Qigong. Before sleeping, you prepare your mind and body for sleep. Your mind is calm and centered for sleep. Sleep is the yin balance to being awake. You seek to balance all aspects of your life. Deep breathing before and while in bed will calm your mind. I also recommend thinking about five things you are grateful for from your day. Before sleep, if there is something weighing on your mind, write it down with a short list of possible actions you can take. This will allow you to be at peace knowing that you have solutions and you won’t forget them.

You seek to bring Yin and Yang balance to your life and surroundings. You let go of the past. You let go of judgments. You let go of any expectations. You let go of any resistance. You live every moment consciously. You live in the present moment. You enjoy quiet and peaceful times more deeply. You enjoy active and changing times more deeply.

You allow the flow of Qi and life to be smooth. As your Qigong practice opens the energy channels in your body, it allows the Qi to flow more smoothly in your body. When Qi is flowing more smoothly, your health improves, your mind relaxes more deeply, and your emotions become balanced. As a result, it also allows the Qi flow of your life to be more smooth. You handle the unexpected changes in life more easily. You handle difficult situations more easily. More things become easy and fewer things seem difficult.

As you practice Qigong, you learn that before you can help others, that you must help yourself first. By taking the self-less action to heal yourself, you put yourself in a better position to help others.

With increased emotional stability, your relationships come into balance. When communing with others, you extend positive and compassionate thoughts. Just as the Qi Field extends and encompasses everyone and everything, you recognize that others are not only connected to you but are an extension of you. You recognize that as you treat others with love and kindness, you treat yourself with love and kindness.  You also know that if you treat yourself with negativity, that indirectly you are extending negativity to others.

So, as a practitioner of Qigong, your practice extends way beyond the exercises and meditation. It becomes the way you live your life. So if you are ready to embrace a life of Qi, a life of Qigong, then start right where you are. There is no time like the present to begin. After all, Qi is everywhere. You can’t escape Qi, it is inside of you. It is all around you. So why not learn to master yourself and Qi through the life practice of Qigong. Qigong is a great way to master your life.

10 Tips for Healthy Living

10 Tips for Healthy Living

1. Eat whole and unprocessed food.
There’s a lot of talk in the diet communities about counting calories. Remember that not all calories are created equal. Processed foods are void of any nutritional substances. Then to make them taste better, salt, saturated fats, sugar, and other sweeteners are added. What’s more important is to eat whole unprocessed foods like vegetables, fruits, and grains. They are the source of nutrients that we need like vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and other phytochemicals. Your hunger will be satisfied with nutrients and your cravings for junk food will go away. This is a better approach to eating than the typical or Standard American Diet (SAD).

2. Drink purified water. Don’t drink tap water.
Recent studies have shown that there are all kinds of pharmaceutical drugs in our water supplies. One way this happens is by people flush medications down the toilet. Another way this happens is by throwing them in the trash. Then they end up in a landfill and they dissolve and are carried away by rain and end up in the water reservoirs. Also, pesticides and other pollutants in the air mix with the rain and they also end up in our reservoirs. The best approach is to drink purified water. Water distillation is best, followed by reverse osmosis filtration. It is worth the investment in your health and well-being to buy a good water purification system for your home. I have a small water distiller for my apartment. There are various sizes to meet everyone’s needs. And the water tastes much better than that out of the tap. You will notice the difference when you make the switch.

3. Get plenty of sleep.
It is best to get at least 7 hours of sleep daily. Children need more. Without adequate sleep, your body can become exhausted and your immune system can become compromised. Not only that but you can gain weight as a result of a lack of sleep. And you shouldn’t drive if you are tired. Drowsy driving is responsible for approximately 2.5% of fatal crashes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It is best to go to bed and get up at the same time every day.

4. Reduce or eliminate stress.
Stress is a major cause of illness. Chronic stress can weaken your immune system and digestive system. It can cause insomnia, nervousness, headaches, extreme emotions, fatigue, and many other health issues. You can reduce or eliminate the effects of stress by learning breathing and relaxation techniques, such as those taught as part of a qigong system. Exercise is another good way to fight stress. Eating healthy whole food is also important when handling unavoidable stressful events. Hypnotherapy is another effective way of managing stress.

5. Exercise regularly.
Recent studies have shown that living a sedentary life can take years off your life. Regular exercise is a good way to add years. I recommend mindful exercises like yoga, tai chi, and qigong. They energize you without causing you to be overly exerted and exhausted. Stretching is another beneficial exercise that will help keep muscles flexible. Weight-bearing exercises keep the muscles and bones strong.

6. Meditate regularly.
Meditation will help you to relax and focus your mind. With practice, it will help to lower blood pressure. Qigong meditation is especially good for relaxing the mind and increasing one’s energy level. Regular daily practice will yield the best results. Another effective meditation practice is to recite a mantra (positive phrase or saying) silently in your mind with your eyes closed.

7. Learn something new to maintain a healthy brain.
Learning new things on a regular basis causes the brain to make new neural connections. This helps to keep the mind active. You can learn a new hobby, exercise, take an art class, learn to play an instrument, and many more. Be creative. Invite a friend to join you.

8. Visit with friends and family regularly.
Being around loved ones is a great way to feel connected and appreciated. It also gives you the opportunity to help your family and friends. Then they will be there for you when you need help.

9. Be of service to others.
Being of service to others not only causes an increase in the feel-good hormones of the people you are helping and yourself but also to those that witness your generosity. There are lots of opportunities to get involved through local charity organizations. You can also donate money to a cause that means something to you and your family. Volunteering will be much appreciated at a local food bank or soup kitchen.

10. Have an open mind.
Let go of unnecessary fear and doubt. Open up your mind to new possibilities. Life is constantly changing for all of us. Accept the uncertainty and embrace new and unexpected circumstances with an open mind. Learn to tap into your intuition instead of immediately running your old fear based programming of “why me”. Life might just surprise you.

Living with Change

Planet Earth - Inner Vitality QigongLife is constantly changing. So it is important to live from a place of center and balance. We often look at change as difficult or stressful. Fear of change often takes us on a detour in life that is not desired and is avoidable if we just accept it as a journey of self-discovery.

Resistance just gives more power to the change we prejudged as difficult and unwanted. Resistance is a sign that we are acting out of fear. Change requires flexibility. Rigidity is a sign of death. If we hold the things in our lives too tightly and try to force things to stay the same, we stifle the very life force that permits life. Change is the inherent nature of life itself. Without change, there would be no life.

Living with change and uncertainty requires knowing yourself, trusting yourself, living from intuition and having faith in God, the Universe, the Chi Field. When we learn how to live in the present moment and stop resisting the truth, we begin to align ourselves with our higher purpose and connect to our higher self.

Acceptance is key to living with change. Accept your circumstance without resistance and judgment. Have an open mind without attachments to the outcome. Then make an adjustment if you don’t get the outcomes that you desire.
